The members of the Rectors’ Board discussed the significant legislative amendments

On 13 January 2016 the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Sanikidze talked to the members of the Rectors’ Board about the legislative amendments adopted by the Georgian Parliament in 2015. Above mentioned package implies the elimination of the current problems and fundamental changes in the field of High education and Science.

Over the years there have not been determined the status of scientists, their rights and obligations, they cannot participate in the management and the learning process of the university. There was limited researchers’ participation in the upbringing process of the future scientist. As a result of the implementation of the legislative amendments there legally determined the status of Scientist – Researchers, at the legislative level there has been regulated the structure of research institutions and the operation mechanism, to restore the status of scientist in the university, to restore connection between teaching and research and enhance research component in the teaching process, assessment system activation of the scientific research items.

In addition, legislative amendments - the introduction of the concept of joint academic degrees and the adjustment of the definition of University - will contribute Georgia to the harmonization of the higher education system in the European educational space.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Sanikidze discussed together with the rectors’ board the operational plan of the implementation of the changes prescribed by law.

Operational Plan will be implemented within the universities with the active involvement of the many scientific-research items. At the meeting there determined the responsible structures, individuals and appropriate dates.

On Rectors’ Board there also discussed a number of large-scale issues such as holding a conference, where will be specific activities related to the conceptual and practical discussion of the issues established a common approach which will be acceptable to all parties.
