The USA under the International Leadership Program

In 2016 from 12th of March to 2nd of April, was held an event “International Leadership Program - The United States justice system “in the United States by the initiative and financing of the United States Government.

The program were participated by 18 representatives from 16 countries - judges, prosecutors, lawyers, representatives of the Ministry of Justice and University professors. Participants were selected by the US government on the basis of the nomination of US development International Agency.

Georgia was represented by Guram Tavartkiladze Teaching University Professor Lika Sajaia.

The program was included a visit to the six states, complex introduction of the American justice system and sharing international experience.

In Washington participants were introduced to the work of the US Supreme Court, In Political Theory Institute took part in the meeting- federalism and the political process in the US. Also they had a meeting with the head of USA Department of Justice and the American Bar Association's representatives.

In Maryland the program participants met with the Prosecutor General and the head of the Civil Rights Commission. The meeting topic was the problems and the basic principles of the criminal prosecution, the elimination of discrimination in the justice process.

New Hampshire - Participants were introduced to juvenile justice system -Correctional institutions, the work of Special courts and the specialized programs for juvenile offenders.

In Nevada - The program was included the process of the election of judges in the US judicial system, to attend the court proceedings, Visit educational institutions and the introduction of the Legal education system.

In Minnesota participants visited the specialized courts which discuss the drug offense cases. Also visited the educational and training centers for judges, legal aid center and a private advocacy company.

In Texas - the program was dedicated to the work of the Supreme Court, participation in the international conference.

We hope that participation in such kind of program will further boost ties among Guram Tavartkiladze Teaching University and American Universities.

In 2011 by the initiative of Lika Sajaia the American partners from the Tennessee University presented 200 modern English legal literature to Guram Tavartkiladze Teaching University.
